Let’s celebrate 99 Years, by giving 100%

9/28/2021

St. Luke’s has been a mission post here in the heart of Bloomington going on 99 Years. It was the first Lutheran church in Bloomington. It has a rich history, one for us to not only celebrate, but build on.
The number one statement I hear from members is, “I wish more people would come to St. Luke’s.” One way to make that wish come true is to invite, welcome, and host. We have three opportunities to do just that in the month ahead. I would challenge you to choose one of them to help make each a success.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting – Thursday, October 7, 6:00-7:00 PM.
3 Ways to help:

1. Help invite the our neighbors. Thank you for the four members who committed to deliver fliers. We still have a dozen more blocks to deliver. Please prayerfully consider. Simply contact the office to choose your block(s?). No door knocking required. Rubber bands supplied. (Federal law prohibits putting them in mailboxes.)
2. Help Host the Event. It would be great to offer some refreshments before and after the meeting. A couple members thought of it the last time we hosted a neighborhood watch. It allowed us to get to know those who attended.
3. Attend the Event. Whether or not you live in the neighborhood, you are a neighbor through St. Luke’s. Come and learn more about our neighborhood.

Fall Fellowship – Wednesday, October 20, 5:30-7:00 PM
The Community Life and Faith Formation Team combine forces to host our members and neighbors. We will have a hotdog picnic. Activities for all ages. If you are interested in helping please contact:
Diane LaFontaine (dmlafontaine@comcast.net) will be coordinating the meal.
Emily Schoeller (emilys@stlukesbloomington.org) will be coordinating the activities.

Trunk or Treat – Sunday, October 24, 4:30-6:00 PM
This is our largest community event. About 350 people attended last year.
3 Ways to help:

1. Please bring candy to church on or before October 24. There will be a box in the Narthex and at the office.
2. Be one of the vehicles. There is a contest for the best decorated vehicle, but honestly the best part is greeting all the children and parents. It would be great to have 20 plus cars. It is helpful if able, to supply your own candy. Please sign up ahead of time by contacting the church office@stlukesbloomington.org
3. Be a Host. This is the best way to meet those who attend. Let us know how you would like to help such as s’mores, cider, popcorn. We will provide what members are willing to help host.  Again, please contact the church office.
St. Luke’s is a welcoming and growing community of faith, busy making Christ known to the world.

Wednesday Night Live –Starts tomorrow, September 22

9/21/2021

All are Welcome, to a night of Discipleship –
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” - Acts 2:42
This is a tradition that church has been doing from the beginning. For us, it has been over a year and a half since we’ve been able to gather on Wednesday nights. It is a chance to join together for a meal, fellowship, and enjoy a variety of learning opportunities. We give thanks for those who prepare the meals, those who lead the studies, and those who attend. Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs. There are three ministries that could use a *partner. Prayerfully consider helping out Early Elementary, Children’s Ministry, or Confirmation. No experience necessary.

St. Luke’s Rally Day Pancake Breakfast

9/14/2021

God knits us together…
…for a moment, or a season
…for a lifetime or a reason

This Sunday, September 19 following both worship services.

Hosts: Community Life and Faith Formation Teams

Cost: Completion of a 2021-22 Ministry Interest Form
(Will be given out during worship.)

St. Luke’s is heading into its 99th year, 1923 to 2022. Think of all the people the Spirit led to serve, to worship, to invite others (maybe even you), to be in community, to financially support, and to grow in their faith, loving God and neighbor in Jesus name.

Every year you are invited to renew your relationship in the mission and ministry of St. Luke’s.

A beautiful example was Monday night at the Altar Guild meeting. Members shared how others had invited them to join. Some were simply curious just wanting to find out what it was and ended up staying. They named those who they had the pleasure to serve with and befriend, but are now no longer able to physically do the work or have died. That is what it means to be a Beloved Community for a moment, season, lifetime, or reason knit together in God’s acceptance, forgiveness and love through Jesus, our Savior and Lord.

So come this Sunday and renew your relationship in the mission and ministry of St. Luke’s, and enjoy some pancakes, sausages, fruit, and beverage. If you are unable to attend, the Ministry Interest Form will be available at the Information Desk or online in the weeks ahead.

All Are Welcome –  if you happened upon St. Luke’s for only a moment.

All Are Welcome – if you attend St. Luke’s for just a portion of your life.

All Are Welcome – if you were baptized, confirmed, married, and will celebrate your life here.

All Are Welcome – if St. Luke’s was just the right time and place for a particular reason.

May All of us Remember
May all of us remember with love and compassion this day.
May we grieve with those who still mourn,
And share memories with those who cannot forget.
May we draw strength from those who bravely responded,
And gave their lives to save others.
May we stand with strangers who became neighbors that day,
And remember their generosity and hospitality.
Above all God may we remember your faithfulness
And learn to trust in your unfailing love.
