and with all your soul,
and with all your mind,
and with all your strength.
The second is this,
‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other commandment greater than these.”
– Jesus (Mark 12:30-31)
This Sunday, September 18 – WORSHIP
We tend to think of Worship as an event. This Sunday we look forward to welcoming back the Choir at 8:30 AM. They Practice Wednesdays at 7 PM in the sanctuary. All are welcome.
But worship is much more than an event, it is learning to “Practice the Presence” in all that you say and do, wherever you are…
“We ought to propose to ourselves is to become, in this life, the most perfect worshippers of God we can possibly be, as we hope to be through all eternity.” – Brother Lawrence, The Practicing of the Presence of God
Love and Worship are one in the same. The Great Commandment is all about worship in heart, soul, mind, and strength. Worship is spiritual, not procedural.
I love that we have two styles of worship at St. Luke’s. Each has its own rhythm and essence. There are as many styles, with a rich diversity of music, or no music at all.
I cringe when anyone proclaims, “The way they do worship isn’t ‘right’” My response is simply, “That’s cause you’re using the word ‘rite’ r-i-t-e.” Worship is whatever allows another to come into the presence of God, offering their life with praise and thanksgiving.
Worship is stewardship. A biblical world view of stewardship can be consciously defined as: "Utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of creation." The central essence of biblical world view stewardship is managing everything God brings into the believer's life in a manner that honors God…and so too is stewardship worship.
Last week on September 11 we focused on Service with “God’s Work, Our Hands!”
What a wonderful way to honor 9/11 in service to others.
Thank you to all who participated!
-Blessings Bags were filled for Oasis for Youth.
-Blankets were tied to be added to the 100 quilts already completed in honor of St. Luke’s 100th Anniversary.
-2500 labels were put on snack bags to be shared during the Heritage Day Parade. Join the St. Luke’s crew walking with our float. Find us behind Kennedy High School after 9 AM.
-The Knitting Ministry displayed their hats, mittens, scarfs, and prayer shawls that will be shared with members and the community, with an open invitation to join them.
-Susan Sartell from the Library Team was organizing our Hallway Library, (behind the sanctuary). It follows the philosophy of our Little Free Library that can be found in front of our building at the end of the sidewalk of Door D. “Take one. Share one.”
-The “NEW” Sewing Room welcomed curious members. No experience is necessary.
-There was a strong crew beautifying our grounds on the Southside of the building, between Door E and the playground. This is a continuation of the work the Yard Team has been working on all summer. Room for you to help out on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 – 11 AM.
-Plus over 40 people signed up with interest in the 11 ministries with sign up forms on Sunday.
All of this is living out our Core Values.
“Simply What Every Christian/Church Should Do.” A pneumonic for our Core Values:
Service, Worship, Evangelism, Community, Discipleship and Stewardship.
For the 2023 Stewardship Campaign we will be inviting you to give 100% to celebrate our 100 Years of ministry. Stewardship is not simply about money, it’s about your whole life – heart, soul, mind, and strength, loving your neighbor as you love yourself.
During these two months (September 11-October 23) we will walk through our Core Values in preparation for completing our holistic pledge card…
Look for future blogs about…
