St. Luke’s is establishing a 5-Year Summer Youth Mission Cycle providing a variety of experiences for students between their 8th-12th Grade Years. In 2020 we were planning to go to Kentucky to serve with Good Neighbors, the habitat organization, directed by a former St. Luke’s student Jason Benedict. Due to Covid 19, those plans need to be changed and we trust that the Lord is directing our steps.
Last month here in our community approximately 700 buildings were damaged due to riots. There is habitat work to be done here. Living up to their name Good Neighbors will be sending a crew here to partnering with St. Luke’s, Prince of Peace in Roseville, and Trinity Lutheran in Owatonna. Our work week is set for August 3-7. We will have a commissioning during our August 2 worship followed by an orientation which will include a social distancing lunch. Many more details are still being worked out including the projects.
Urban Ventures is a faith based organization located on E. Lake Street in Minneapolis. They are currently serving as a community center hub offering a variety of ways to care for those in their neighborhood. I would encourage you to learn more about them: urbanventures.org.
The program cost to participate is $350 for the week. This will provide the Good Neighbor Staff support, material costs, as well as a donation to continue the projects for the residents of Kentucky. I would encourage you to also learn more about them: goodneighbors-inc.org.
All ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Scholarships are available. Donations are accepted. Lives are changed.
Jesus taught us how to be a good neighbor, by loving your neighbor as yourself.
