Summer Camps and Trips
GO! Enjoy the journey...
The church is not a building, it is the gathering of believers wherever they may be. Jesus' first word to the
Great Commission is "Go!" Starting on the shores of Lake Wapogasset and ending on the waters of Lake Superior, with a variety of mission trips in between the church goes out. Children can go to camp starting in 1st Grade. In 8th grade students begin their rotation of 5-Years of Mission Trips.
How wonderful to hear young students share with excitement what their first mission trip will be. In addition, every three years students have the opportunity to attend the ELCA Youth Gathering (2027 in Minneapolis). The final youth trip is for High School Graduates, catching the wind (Spirit) as they sail around the Apostle Islands and into their post-high school futures. This can only happen with the dedicated adults, taking time away from work and family to be leaders. Thank You!

SUMMER 2020 Mission Minneapolis with Good Neighbors. Appalachia Organization Came to us!
The 2020 St. Luke’s Summer Youth Mission Trip to Appalachia turned into a Congregational Mission Project in Minneapolis. In total 31 people joined the Good Neighbors organization from Appalachia organization in restoring an East Lake Street business (EL) and repairing a North Minneapolis Home (NM). The East Lake Street Business suffered significant damage due to the riots. This business was the first and only one to welcome partnership with the community through Urban Ventures. The success at their location will be used to encourage other businesses to partner with organizations willing to help. Due to this fact, there was need to find an additional project. Good Neighbors mission is to help the working poor, people who find themselves with too much money to receive any government assistance, but not enough money to repair their homes.

A widow in North Minneapolis met their criteria and we joined forces with Prince of Peace in Roseville along with friends of St. Luke’s to repair her home. As Tim Krieg who has participated in past Appalachia mission trips said that it was a similar experience right in our own community. In total St. Luke’s had 15 members along with 6 friends put in about 420 hours of service work. We could not have completed our mission without the partnership of Prince of Peace who provided an additional 108 hours. Thank you to the majority of participants along with many members of St. Luke’s who made donations to provide the materials and pay for the Good Neighbors staffing.
The mission was a way to live out our summer sermon theme – Transformed by Faith. Not only were these buildings restored and repaired, the hearts of the owners and the participants were transformed by faith.
This work is a reminder that we can be in mission anywhere and everywhere. May all that you say and do in Jesus name help others be transformed by faith. To God be the glory.

First one was at St. Luke's in June. Then we served both Advent Lutheran in Manhattan and Our Saviour Lutheran in Jamaica, Queens in July. In August we were at Prince of Peace in Roseville. The students raised their own money. The adults volunteered their time. And everyone had a lot of fun. The students were excited to tour the Big Apple, but during our reflection time what they loved most were the relationships built with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Our kids and our community is changed because of your faithful presence. Your energy, creativity, and genuine commitment to the Gospel inspired our kids and congregation. Your amazing decor, delicious treats, contagious laughter, beautiful singing, creative storytelling, and energetic play (among so many other things) was a delight! Our staff could not stop remarking on how kind and flexible and joyful your group was. We do not have adequate words to say thank you. Please know we continue to life you in prayer. Knowing that our siblings in faith are doing such good work, thousands of miles away, brings us joy and courage. It gives us hope.
God bless, Pastor Danielle and our Advent staff."
